About Us

Our Story of introduction to the breed was through our good friend, Karen Nelson. I watched her develop her program and listened to the merits of both breeds. The decision to use the breeds seemed equally productive: to the sphynx, it would provide a robust breed for genetic diversity and strong immune systems; to the curls, it would provide a wide ear base and open ear canals. I began consulting, observing the development and commitment of the different "houses", and watching to make sure the true purpose and development of the breed was maintained. After much contemplation, I decided to come on board with this program. As a veterinarian, I am sensitive to the unique health demands of both breeds, continue to research their health issues, continue to weigh and consider the benefits to both breeds throughout the development of this program, and provide for a vigorous socialization regimen. I believe the goal to be continued development of the breed by paying attention to structure, movement, and temperament. In addition, working within a community of comradery to continue to identify, test, and isolate the health problems which may afflict this new breed. And above all, to make sure to the best of our ability EVERY kitten or adult placed from our home to yours will be the most correct match to allow for a lifetime of companionship. In addition, I still maintain discreet and separate Sphynx and American Curl lines which are not part of this program.

Here at House Vaalor, we strive to provide an inclusive and updated medical program. All adults are screened for the following :

•Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

•Bartonella-- this is an IMPORTANT bacteria which can be transmitted to people and result in "Cat Scratch Fever"

•Giardia testing on the stool

•Yearly fecals and deworming since even fecals with no parasites seen can still be a source of parasites

•Yearly vaccinations with PureVax FVRCP and PureVax Rabies vaccinations including full examinations of eyes, hearts, abdomens, etc.

•We have begun screening for Tritrichomonas foetus

•Yearly Abdominal ultrasound screening

•Yearly Heart scans with followup by boarded cardiologist where appropriate

•Yearly ear mite check.

In addition, any kittens or adults lost, receive a full necropsy to determine cause of death.
